By plain:

The nearest airport to Les-Houches is GENEVE.

There are direct buses to Les-Houches from Geneve airport. (Note that Swiss is NOT in Europe, and therefore a Swiss visa is needed for many nationalities (even if you take a bus from the French side of Geneve's airport, they check the visa at the border!) It is much better to take the bus on the International/Swiss side than on the French side. There are more buses, your luggage goes first to the Swiss side, and the bus leaves a little later from the Swiss side (it has to make an interesting meander through, then under the airport, to go from the French to the Swiss side).

Here is the timetable:

Dep.GVA (Intern. side) - [Dep. French side] - Arr. Les Houches

08:00 - [xxx] - 09:49

10:45 - [1030] - 12:19

15:45 - [1530] - 17:19

18:40 - [1825] - 20:14

There is an additional one on Sat and Sun, at 13:50. NB: Sat/Sun only.

Return

14:16 - 15:50 - [1605]

16:46 - 18:20 - [xxx]

There is an additional one on Sat and Sun, at 11:16, arr 12:50.

When you arrive, the Bus ticket counter is straight ahead in the International side. (On the french side, just right before the bridge exit). They will tell you where the bus is.

For those who need, but have no Swiss visa, you can go to Bellegarde-sur-Valserine. There is not public transport! You can ask somebody to pick you up, or take a taxi (that we can not pay for!) There is a train from Bellegarde to St-Gervais at 21.11, arrival 22.45. Be sure that we know at advance about your arrival time, since there is not more train to Les-Houches at this day!

The other international Airport you may use is Lyon-Satolas (LYONS). You should take a bus not later than 16.20 to Lyon railway station (Lyon-Part-Dieu). The train departs at 17.16, arriving to St-Gervais at 20.33.

By train:

For all trains and some regular buses timetable, please consult the WEB site:

http://ter.sncf.fr/rhone-alpes/default.htm

follow "Horaires"

Use for place of arrival "St-Gervais-Les-Bains". For some reason, the Web displays much more choices for this station. Then you can take a train to Les-Houches (see the same WEB site!) St-Gervais-Les-Bains departure afternoon February 15: (15.20, 16.24, 17.40, 19, 19.19, 19.32, 20.49).

From Geneve airport you can take a city bus till Gare des Eaux-Vives, then train to Annemasse - (La Roche s/Foron) - (St-Gervais-Les-Bains) - Les Houches. Train very pleasant, quite a few, but slow. The other possibility (more expensive) is city bus (or taxi) to Geneva Cornavin, then train on the Swiss side: GVA-Lausanne-Martigny-Chamonix-Les Houches. Extraordinary line from Martigny, well worth taking during day-time.
